We ensure all Markit interns do real work and we love the influx each Summer, as interns help complete projects and bring an added energy to our organization."

Welcome to IHS Markit

When I started Markit in 2003 in a converted barn with six former colleagues, we had one server and an idea: to provide reliable, independent daily pricing for credit default swaps.

Fast forward to 2016 to see the merger of two information businesses and the creation of IHS Markit. We are a world leader in critical information, analytics and solutions for the major industries and markets that drive economies worldwide. The company delivers next-generation information, analytics and solutions to customers in business, finance and government, improving their operational efficiency and providing deep insights that lead to well-informed, confident decisions. We have more than 50,000 key business and government customers, including 80 percent of the Fortune Global 500 and the world’s leading financial institutions.

Our intern programme is now in its 10th year and is a great way for us to bring fresh new graduates into our company. We ensure all Markit interns do real work and we love the influx each Summer, as interns help complete projects and bring an added energy to our organisation.

We are committed to extending permanent offers of employment to all those who perform well over the programme and I am heartened to see so many join us after their internship completes.

What to expect

Learning is at the core of our programme design. Spend the summer with us and you will leave with a variety of new skills and knowledge. We are very proud of our programme which has been carefully structured to provide a blend of activities to develop different proficiencies.

Real work

You will be given a real job and form a key part of a team, undertaking work which is valuable to us and to you. You will have objectives and your performance will be reviewed both mid-programme and upon its completion. Essentially, you will be treated exactly as if you worked for us permanently.

Group project

Our group project is an exciting element of our programme. You will work with colleagues in different locations on a project which is a real business challenge. At the end of the project you will present your findings to our CEO and other members of the senior management team. This is a highlight of the programme which will drive your business acumen, team work, and presentation skills to the next level.

Trading simulator

Our internship includes a virtual trading competition using Markit's trading simulator, which is used by banks to assess and train their traders. This tool was developed inhouse and will give you the opportunity to learn about the broader financial markets as well as have a friendly competition with peers within Markit and at other companies. After receiving some hints and tips on how to trade you will be given the opportunity to trade anything from gold to hogs!

Global learning programme

In addition to on-the-job training, we also organise regular structured learning sessions to help you develop your core business skills. You will attend business information meetings which will give you exposure to the different areas of our business, the world of finance, and enable you to meet various business leaders.
