Business Analyst

Markit seeks an experienced business analyst to join its Core Data team. The Core Data Programme aims to establish a central function and process for sourcing core data, and making it available to the wider businesses. It comprises several projects and streams, and the term core data refers to datasets used by multiple business areas, where no one business area is the obvious owner of the data. These datasets relate to identification of financial instruments and their underlying components.

Duties & accountabilities

• Identify options for potential solutions,including assessment of technical and business suitability Use industry expertise to help define best-fit solution
• Produce detailed business and functional requirement specifications from existing systems, previous drafts, and SME interviews
• Conduct gap analysis Integration of new and existing data sets into the Markit Group central database, where responsibility has been allocated to the Core Data team
• Provide input into user interface layouts and create mock-ups
• Utilise analytical tools to develop workflow and process flow diagrams
• Assist with acceptance test planning
• Write and revise support materials (e.g. user guides, FAQs, training materials, etc.)
• Liaise with internal clients to provide expertise and input where necessary

Business Competencies

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
• Proven experience as a business analyst
• Thorough understanding of the software development life cycle
• Strong interviewing skills
• Strong written and oral communication skills Analytical and well organized
• Careful attention to detail
• Proven ability to work independently Expertise in MS Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint
• Expertise in MS Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint Experience of requirements modeling tools a plus Knowledge of UML, in particular creating use case models, and writing use cases
• Strong understanding of technology, and its use in producing applications in the financial services industry
• Able to work competently on his/her own or within a team, taking a project through complete lifecycle
• Past experience with equity and credit markets, trading a plus
