Sybase Database Administrator

We are a fast growing financial services company seeking an enthusiastic individual to join our global systems administration and operational support team in our White Plains, NY office.
Part of a global team, the primary role for this position provides operational support to Markit's production database systems globally  Further, this role will also provide development and performance tuning support to Markit's software development teams. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

Specifically, the Sybase Database Administrator will be responsible for:

  • The Sybase Database Administrator will install and configure Database Software on the following OS: Sun Solaris, Linux
  • Database administrator will create, monitor and administer databases in Sybase
  • Database Administrator will upgrade databases to higher versions of the Database Server Software
  • Will perform full scope of administrative and monitoring task related to the management of the relational databases
  • Participate in the logical and physical design of relational databases, if required
  • Proven production support background of application databases in a 24 X 7 environment
  • Perform database performance monitoring
  • Prior experience with Sybase replication is necessary
  • Maintain relational client/server databases (creating, designing, reorganizing, tuning and backup & recovery)
  • Develop, implement and maintain programs, scripts and routines needed to automate database administration as well to accommodate Disaster Recovery
  • Install maintenance software for Sybase, including patch updates, upgrades;configure software according to requirements of database and for Disaster Recovery
  • Communicate with the clients to identify and resolve problems.
  • Manage assigned projects and resolve or escalates issues to the appropriate level of management
  • Monitor database performance and resolve problems in an appropriate manner

Skills and Experience:

  • 3-5 years of experience working as a Sybase DBA
  • Extensive knowledge of Tran. SQL, PL/SQL, or other scripting experience
  • Extensive knowledge of scripting on Unix/ NT (Shell, Perl)
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including on-call database support
  • Knowledge of RAID technology, Fail-over and Disaster Recovery
  • Must be independent, organized, self-motivated, responsible individual able to complete tasks with little or no outside support
